Angle Lens Set

Question about lens hoods?
I just bought D80 which came with a 18-135 zoom.
Why is it that when the lens is set at a wide angle and I'm taking a photo at an angle the hood begins to enter the frame. Is it expected that I'm to remove and reattach the hood.

Thanks for all the input. I re-read my manuals and the I'm not suppose to use the hood any lower than 24mm
The aperitions I was getting was a shadow being cast from the auto flash.
Hi, I do not use that lens nor that lens hood but it could be the following reasons.
1. The lens hood (designed) cannot be used when the lens is at full wide 18mm, so it has to be removed
2. It has not been fixed correctly. Note: If the hood had been fixed with the side blades on top (i.e, portrait framed), the sides will appear when zoomed out to 18mm. In other words, you'll have to rotate the orientation of your lens hood by 90degrees.
