How do I use photoshop to colour drawings?
Well my dad recently got this new and totally AWESOME and every other word photo-editor. But I'm probably just comparing it to my old one where all you could do was change the colours and make it look older, rather lame now :p
Any who...this new editor; I don't know how to colour these drawings I had done so they look professional like the ones you see on Deviant Art. I think the program is called Gimp 2 (I'm sure it has fancier name) or something like that, well it's to make things easier it's just like any other photo shop. But how can I use it to make my drawings look professional and nicely done by adding colour?

Also, how can I make only pat of my photo coloured or black and white with out using paint, which failed on the first try since the pictures I had were huge 
Also how can I add extreme detail, like fur, snake scales or leather so it looks some what realistic?

There are TONS of tutorials you can Google for more info on this. But I can give you a couple of basic things to know. And Gimp is a good alternative to Photoshop (besides, it's free and legal).
You want to start with a sketch in pencil or pen and ink. A lot of the best artists will work up several sketches, then refine one of the sketches, and scan the sketch into Photoshop (or Gimp). That sketch goes on one layer. There are a couple of different ways to enhance the lines of the sketch; you might want to google "coloring art in Photoshop" or something similar.
You keep that scanned sketch on one layer.
Then you add layers: this is the key. By using layers you can control where you place color so the colors don't mix with each other, nor do they mess up the lines of the scanned sketch.
Also, always do a save as after you open the original piece, so you keep an original and a working copy. That way if you mess things up, you can go back to the original again.

Gimp and Photoshop both support layers. Paint and some of the other simpler programs do not support layers.
