Black or white lighting backdrop?
Hey just wondering, I'm choreographing a dance and in the technical forms it is asking whether I would like to have a white or black backdrop.
Can anyone specify the advantages/disadvantages of them?
Can a white backdrop be blacked out?
The costumes are sleeveless black and baggy black trousers if that helps with any recommendations of either.

If you're wearing black, then you should definately have a white back drop because then your bodies will be silhouetted and not blend into the background.
You can't have a black light in theatre because black absorbs light, but you could have a complete blackout at the beginning/end of the piece to add dramatic effect.
If you wore all white however and used strobe lighting you're bodies would glow in the dark, which is a really cool effect that I have used for a dance piece before. Hope I've given you some ideas. Lucy x
