Base Legs

An isosceles triangle has area of 110 ft2. If the base is 14 ft, what is the length of the legs?
Round your answer to the nearest tenth.
Area = 1/2*b*h
110 = 1/2 * 14 * h
15.714 = h
The height line divides the the isosceles triangle into two congruent right triangles. The hypotenuses are the two equal sides of the original isosceles triangle. One side is half the 14 ft of the base. The other side is the height just calculated. So, using the Pythagorean theorem:
c^2 = a^2 + b^2
c^2 = 7^2 + (15.714)^2
c^2 = 49 + 246.93
c^2 = 295.93
c = 17.2
The legs are 17.2 ft long.
