What could this battery have been doing?
I had a battery that was sitting in the trash can. I didn't know this however. I was just sitting here watching T.V. and over the T.V. and the AC I heard this sizzling sound coming from my trash can. So I took the bag out and at the bottom of the bag was a large battery and I touched it through the bag and it was relatively hot. I also noticed that it was what was making the sizzling sound. It also had a blackish liquid coming out of it.
It probably got shorted by touching some metal in your trash can.
When shorted it gets hot (somewhat). They are sealed, but because it got hot it may have expanded creating a small opening, causing the internal liquid to leak.
