Seamless Paper OR Black Muslin?
I am doing a photo shoot and my client want to take pictures with a Black backdrop.
Should I buy the seamless Black paper or should I buy the Black Muslin (I can get if for £32)?
Which one and why?
They both have their pros and cons.
Seamless paper looks great as a background. It's very clean looking, and yes, seamless. However, it's bulky, gets dirty easily, and tears easily.
Muslin also looks great. It comes in a huge variety of colors, patterns, and it's not as bulky. But it's wrinkled. Even when you take care on how you store it, when you unpack it and set it up, it will be wrinkled. So you have to get the wrinkles out, unless you don't care if it's in the background. I personally just hang it up and use a squirt bottle of water on it. The weight of the muslin hanging and made damp will help pull the wrinkles out. Make sure this is the first thing you set up so it has time to dry some while you're setting up the rest of your gear.
I take both muslin and seamless backgrounds to a shoot. The situation will dictate which to use. How much room will I have to set up, what's the client wearing, what does the client prefer...?
