Can I use a different cable to transfer photos from camera to my laptop?
I recently purchased a Canon Digital camera and it came with a Canon Cable Interfaz IFC-400PCU. I saw that instead of using the cable that comes with the camera, the cable of my Western Digital passport hard drive fits perfectly into the slot and I can transfer the photographs from the camera to my laptop. My question is that is there any benefits of using the IFC-400 PCU cable over my WD hard drive cable? What is the small bulge at the end of the IFC-400 for? I don't want too many cables lying around my house and would prefer to use the hard drive cable for my camera if it does the same job.
The "bulge" is a ferrite core, it is supposed to reduce interference with the signals inside the cable.
It is mostly a way to try and justify charging $30 for a new cable.
The other cable will work just fine.
