I want to take out the 70x optical zoom from my Panasonic SDR S26 and put it in my Panasonic HDC SD1.
Please tell me it's possible and may work.
There seems to be a conspiracy in the camera industry as to why they can't simply provide a 3CCD HD camcorder on he market that has great optical zoom.
Well, I want to force the subject and make it myself.
first of all, the S26 is standard resolution, so its lens does not need to focus as sharp as an HD type. second the S26 uses a 1/8 inch size image. If you put that lens on your SD1 you would only have a small circle of an image in the center of the picture!! a 70x lens for a 1/4 inch sensor would need to be about 12 inches long. They are made, but would cost a lot more than the $2000 you paid for the camera alone. professionals have used 12x lens on video cameras for decades, they are quite adequate for general purpose shooting and can be used with a reasonable cost tripod, say a $500 bogen. the current craze for super telephoto lenses is strictly a consumer salesmanship war made possible by the very tiny CCD imagers. It is not a quality issue.
By the way your HDC-SD1 is a nice camera and its Leica Dicomar HD lens is first rate.
