Can someone explain camera lens filters?
I am new to photography and I am curious to know about lens filters as we have not learnt about that in class (i am taking a photography course at a local college). Can someone explain the use of different filters and what they are used and when they should be used.
In digital there are a few main types you will find a use for. Polarizer lets the light come in at an angle, that has like 15 effects that I'm too lazy to type. An ND filter darkens everything, lots of uses there. A ND grad, darkens only the sky for sunsets or hills where the sun is super bright and the hills are pitch black, avoid silhouette. A UV is both for protection from physical scratches and UV radiation on the plastics. It has small effects on the picture.
And it does sub-categorize from there. Filters generally change the light before they hit the plane. Whether a simple shade or altering the light rays like a polarizing effect.
