Does The Canon Xsi and Xs have any red eye delay?
I'm looking into buying a Canon Xsi or Canon Xs and was wondering if the ISO was affected by red-eye settings. They say that SLR's have nearly zero lag time, but does that apply when the red eye setting is switched on?
The XSi and XS are very responsive (like all dSLR cameras) but when you switch on red-eye reduction you do introduce some lag (again, as with every dSLR.)
This has to do with how red-eye reduction works: when you press the shutter release with red-eye reduction turned on, the flash will fire a few short bursts to contract your subjects' pupils before actually taking the shot.
If you want to avoid using red-eye reduction, there are 2 things you can do:
1) Crank up the ISO setting so that you don't need the flash at all. (And/ or use a larger aperture.)
2) Use a separate flash instead of the tiny pop-up. A separate flash is usually far enough away from the lens that it won't cause red-eye.
