How bad is it to breath in the dust from cutting a carbon fiber hockey stick?
I work in an ice rink pro shop and I cut carbon fiber (or composite) hockey stick all the time. I never really thought about it until a guy that works with carbon fiber auto parts told me they have special machines and face makes they have to wear when cutting those parts. So how bad is it for me to cut carbon fiber hockey sticks with no mask on a circular saw?
Personally I would be more worried about the skate sharpener than the cutting hockey sticks part. Even with the vacuum on the sharpener turned on I would still get "metal boogers" when I sharpened without a mask at the shop I worked at years ago. After a few times with that experience I just bought some of those masks that covered my mouth and nose, I didn't really need anything for my eyes as I wear regular glasses and the sharpener had a guard for that anyway. But long story short, breathing in any type of metal, graphite, wood or any other kind of dust isn't all that healthy, get yourself a mask.
