Color coded and negative and positive wires in stereo.?
when connecting the wires between your stereo system & your loudspeakers, you may notice that wires are color coded and that the speakers have positive & negative signs on the connector. What is the reason for that?
All the speakers need to be "in phase". What this means is that they all push or pull at the same time, so that they create pressure waves, rather than just moving air about. Here's the ultimate way to test for phase and also demonstrate its effect. Connect a pair of speakers to the front left and right outputs of your amp. Place them facing one another a couple of inches apart. Play some music. If they are in phase, they will sound fine. If they are out of phase, they will have no bass at all because they are cancelling each other out, and will sound like a tinny transistor radio.
