Cover Cap

Fuel cap cover 1995 citroen xantia wont open with the central locking system any idea how to get it to work?
Although the car is old its in good working order and regularly serviced, Citroen said there is a manual release under the back panel but I took off the panel but cant find it. The central locking system works fine other than this.
They fail regularly on all makes of cars - even if you put a bit of grease or WD40 on them from time to time I reckon the fuel fumes or any spills soon wash it off.
Mine is cable operated and the "manual release" is just pulling on the bit the cable is attached to.
One cynical fix is to try it when NOT on a filling station forecourt - they always work first time every time then!
If you can get to the back of it from inside the back of the car, a good spray of trusty old WD40 might soak into the offending bit.
PS. I now have a piece of string attached to my manual release point, so I won't have to muck about removing the trim panel next time - and it hasn't misbehaved since I fitted it.
