I'm looking for information on doing actor's headshots as a part-time buisiness?
any resources to help my with this? I need to know about the workflow and what I'm expected to provide to the client- eg shots on disc, prints, contact sheet, etc... Also, any gear advice- I shoot with a D90, 18-105 VR/ 70-300 VR, and am getting either a 35 or 50 1.4. Any other lenses come to mind? How about speedlights/ reflectors, etc.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Hey guys- you have NO IDEA of my level of skill/ knowledge as a photographer, so please don't presume to tell me that I am "Ken Rockwell material". ( I have read every page on his site for years...) I am WELL aware of the specialized needs of this type of work, hence my asking for resources. pretty snotty attitudes, if you ask me. I'm not like those idiots who want to start shooting weddings with their Rebels and a kit lens, so cut me some frickin' slack.
I would get the 50 for sure, and a speed light will give you more flexibility in the looks you can create for the actor. a reflector will add to flexibility as well.
In contrast to the statementsfrom the dude above, you can be perfectly capable to take good headshots in less than an hour. whatch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSPVp7Oi2J0 read this sight,

and i would feel confident in your ability to produce an exceptional actor headshot.
years of learning before stepping into the photography buis is just silly. Some people are born able to see the beauty in things, and bring it to paper, others have to learn this skill, but it certainly doesnt take long. It's basic math, seriously, even the book "portrait photography" for dummies is about all you need to know when it comes to shooting and perspective. spend 2 hours or so reading that, a few hours practicing, making it stick, and bam, you have everything you need to be a decent photographer. You may not ever be a super amazing famous photographer, but you willl be dang good at head shots. If love photography, you likley have what it takes to start a small buis. Good Luck!!!!
