My 23" monitor won't display at 1920 x 1080?
I have a Dell XPS 400 that I just recently had fixed. It needed a new motherboard and the parts were put into a new case to fit the replacement mb. The repair man also had to reload windows. For some reason, my monitor won't display at 1920 x 1080. I've tried reinstalling the software, auto-adjusting from the monitor menu, and going into Properties and resetting the monitor display resolution. The slider won't show 1920 x 1080 as an option. What's weird is that I had my monitor displaying just fine before I had my computer fixed. It's connected with an HDMI cable. I tried HP website with no help. I also tried to update drivers, nothing. I don't know what to do. Thanks for help.
using the same cable as before
I'm sorry, I thought I updated the driver. Tried doing that WITH THE MONITOR DISC and it said it can't. I'm lost
Your problem is NOT your monitor. Installing a monitor driver will do absolutely NOTHING to solve your problem.
Your problem is your VIDEO CARD. Whenever a computer is wiped clean with a new reload of Windows, it wipes out the video card driver. Without the proper video card driver, a computer can only display lower resolutions.
You need to find out what video card you have, and download the right driver for it from the company that made the graphics chip on the video card (nVidia, ATI, Intel, etc.).
