In WWII, did most members of the same naval training station company get the same "sea duty" assignment?
I have a photo of my father's naval training class (company 529, Sampson, N.Y.) and a later photo of the VPB squadron to which he was assigned. It looks like at least two others close to him in the class photo are also in the squadron photo. Was it common for those in a class who were assigned straight to sea duty (i.e., did not draw additional training) to end up with the same assignment?
Note: the people in the photo were in the same Fleet Air Wing, and finished training just before their assigned wing was re-deployed to North Africa; looking for insights and info on how naval air wings were constructed near the end of WWII.
This depends on their jobs, or MOS. If they had the same classification then they could be assigned to the same ship, but most of the people are not going to do the same thing and would separate after training.
If they went straight to sea duty, then they might be assigned to the same ship, but not always.
