Last night I saw with my telescope a sparkling rainbow of lights shaped like an oval, then to a dome. what was?
It was moving pretty slow. When i took a closer look the shape and color change. It looked like a sparkling ball that would change to a purple dome with lines going across the object and the lines were flashing also. What could this be?
Were the stars in the sky twinkling ALOT?
I'm going to make an educated guess and say that you were looking at Sirius in REALLY BAD viewing conditions, possibly low in the sky with local obstructions like trees to add to the mix. Because of Earth's rotation, it and any other object you look at in the telescope will move slowly or quickly depending on the magnification of the eyepiece used.
Sirius often appears to flash various colors because of the distortion effects of our own atmosphere on objects at low altitude in the sky. If the air is particularly turbulent, you won't even be able to see the stars as sharp points of light --- they will bubble and morph into all kinds of shapes rapidly. This is even more apparent with a really bright star like Sirius.
