lightsphere vs omnibounce?

what's the difference

with an omnibounce you need surfaces to bounce,
but can you use a lightsphere without surfaces to bounce (black ceiling)
and still create soft, better light then the omnibounce?

I don't know who gave Ashelton the thumbs down, but they are obviously ignorant to the fact that he is absolutely correct... Unless you have surfaces to bounce off, even the fong lightsphere is really a point source and unlikely diffuse the light dramatically. You'd be better using a largish pop up reflector behind or to the side of you and bouncing the light from a speedlight into that.... that will definitely help to diffuse the light.
