get files from mybook essential western digital external hard drive without usb?
How can I get the data from my 1tb mybook essential western digital external hard drive without a usb connector? The usb came off from the inside of the HD, and so I got a replacement enclosure, which I have now, but all my files are encrypted when I try to use it on the new enclosure. Is there a way to get my files off still?
I forgot to mention, I'm using a mac.
Encrypted? Strange.
You can try something though, and I think it will work.
Download Ubuntu: http://nl.releases.ubuntu.com/releases//lucid/ubuntu-10.04.2-desktop-i386.iso
Ubuntu is an Operating System like Windows, but Linux-based. You don't have to install it, because it can run from the CD itself (pretty neat eh).
Download the ISO, burn it onto a CD (using either Windows' own burning tool, or by using DeepBurner (http://www.deepburner.com)
Restart your PC, and boot up from CD. Select "Run from CD".
Now the system will start. Hook up your external HDD and see if it shows up, If it does, go to it, and try to copy files to your own hard drive. I think you will find your way around.
