NiMH instead of NiCads : can I replace like for like ?

Been down the shops today.
no one has NiCds..

there are all promoting high capacity Ni MH or maplin have Hybrid Ni MH

not one shop could explain if they were NiCad replacements
not one shop had NiCads
Many packages were suggesting replacing Alkaline (1.4v) with NiMH (1.2v)

The hybrids seem to just be pre-charged NiMH
(with their like an alkaline but also a rechargeable advertising on the back....)
though the guy in Boots reckoned theirs were precharged anyway - not sure I accept that

So can I just put them in my DECT phone... as the Nicads are dying fast ?
OK, they may trickle charge slower (because they have higher capacity)
but any other harm or risk ?

Is it correct to assume that the NiMH chargers are just higher 10% ("14hr) charging for the high mAHr ?

It is not practical to have external charging... but NiCd's have all but vanished...
without explaination...

Ni-Mh can be used in place of Ni-Cds assuming they are the same physical size. They will take longer to charge at a given rate than will Ni-Cds due to their higher capacity
