This one is quite simple, was feeling despondent as I wrote it.
Photographer
You may have begun an exited youth,
a new camera and a reel of film;
snapping pictures of close-up
faces and darting tongues,
huddled crowds and bunny ears.
You may have moved on to moody poses,
or pictures blurred by the motion
of a speeding car along a highway.
But as your hand grew more patient
You've come to aid me in my escapes;
provided me benches in gardens,
fall foliage
and panoramic views.
You've given me canvases of snow,
in different hues,
taken me up close to the fluorescent wings of a butterfly
and showed me the textures of petals.
All this we could acquire by walking on foot,
or simply standing still.
But like me,
you've learned that life is better in frames,
or facing endless paths.
We can forget we know where they end.
