Can you tell the difference between a photo taken with an 85mm lens and another taken with a 135mm lens?
Is there any way to tell if a photo was taken with an 85mm lens or a 135mm lens? Let's just say if a photo was taken with an 85mm lens of a subject, and then you take a photo of the same subject but stepping back with the 135mm lens so that you get the same framing, would they have enough different characteristics to tell them apart?
Will you have the two pictures side by side to compare? Without two pictures side by side, it will be quite difficult.
Otherwise, look at the background. The background of the 135mm will seem more cropped than the 85mm. This is because of perspective. The 85 needs to take wider perspective to create the picture. The 135 captures a much more narrow perspective.
you will need to see the two photos side by side because the focal length is quite similar. The perspective change isnt that great for me to immediately tell a difference. if you throw a 20mm in the mix and it will be much much more isolated.
This is also another reason why portraits prefer long lenses, a lot of the background is cropped out of the narrow perspective
