how expensive are colour cartridges that go inside HP photo smart printers? and where can buy them cheapest?
if just need 1..i think this is the way the photo smart printer is..the all in one.. and i think it contains all the colours..is this true? how expensive and can buy generic versions for much cheaper? if so, how?

The HP ones cost between £15 and £40 each, depending on which number cartridge it is and where you buy them.
If you can, get the pricier "XL" cartridges for your printer, you can save money in the long run by having to buy fewer cartridges.
The non-HP cartridges, which are usually "remanufactured" HP ones, cost perhaps £7 to £30 each.
I always buy the genuine HP cartridges, because I've found that the non-HP ones produce poor colour quality for photos and can produce streaky images. This doesn't matter much if you're not actually printing photos, but if you're not printing photos then a laser printer is cheaper to run than an inkjet printer.
As far as I am aware, most HP printers use a two cartridge system where you have one colour cartridge (cyan, magenta and yellow in one cartridge) and one black cartridge. You should be able to open your printer up and see the two cartridges, and it will (eagerly) tell you if one of them runs out.
Sometimes it is possible to buy an expensive "Photo Black" cartridge which you only put in the printer when you're printing high-quality photos, because it's so expensive. It contains black, light-cyan and light-magenta.
I'd suggest trying Wilkinson and Tesco. The last time I looked, Wilkinson was the cheapest, but Tesco are always changing their prices around, so you never know.
