Plexiglass Filter 2
building a 1,832gal pond?

I wouldn't be stocking it with koi or goldfish or anything, amazingly. I will be stocking it with amazonian fish! We are building it 6inches into the ground, and three feet above ground. Three sides witll be covered by walls and supported with brick. The front will be plexiglass supported by brick stablizers. We figured that we would just make a very large tank out of plexiglass, stick it all together, build the walls around it, and fill with water, install the gigantor filters lol(a lot of steps are missing, I know lol).

My question is if I do this, would my fish be encouraged to spawn since they would have 1,832gallons of water to do so? I plan on silver dollars, 3 pacu(or one, not sure because they are fin-nippers), many neon tetras, some rainbow sharks, and other amazon species that will do well in such a large community tank lol

If you have suggestions on amazon species, tell me. They are my fav. fish(besides chilchids). Also, please answer my Q.

Wow, nice undertaking there.... about all I can say is know what you are getting into. I have designed and aided in the construction of too many ponds to count and it's never an easy task.

Would the fish be encouraged to spawn? Only if you provide them with what they need. The extra size of the pond wouldn't matter to neons for example, they spawn well in a 10 gallon tank. Ditto for most Cory catfish (something no south american tank should be without IMO) or south American cichlids. None of those need the space. As for the big species like pacu, the tank will only provide the space, you will have to provide everything else as well. Of course, the smaller fish you mention will provide the food source, but even then you will have to add to that. No doubt you will have tons of plants which will give the smaller fish a place to spawn and the fish like the silver dollars a nice salad, but that seems to be what you want and I'm not trying to say it's a bad thing at all. Sounds like an awesome project!

One note though. I would suggest you build the frame of block and brick, then line it with the plexiglass. It will be stronger and more secure that way

Good luck and post a link to picture of the work in progress and the finished project, that's too awesome to keep to yourself!
