The Canon Speedlite Transmitter will work with he speedlights right? I wont need the pocket wizards?
The STE2 speedlite transmitter works with any of the EX series speedlights. This is a cost effective solution for remotely firing Canon flashes. The system works well and greatly enhances your lighting options. That said, there are some advantages to the Pocket Wizards.
First, the Pocket Wizards use radio rather than infrared signals...This means you don't need line of site to the speedlights and this greatly increases your options with respect to speedlight placement. Pocket Wizards allow you to control not just Canon flashes but, any flash including the big studio flashes without running sync cables all over the place. The Pocket Wizard, can also fire the camera itself remotely and, unlike Canon's remotes, does not need line of site to the infrared receiver to do it. The flipside of all this of course is you need a transceiver for each flash and as well as the camera which makes Pocket Wizards a more expensive proposition. But if you need the additional functionality the Pocket Wizards offer, the Canon system is a poor substitute.
