This is a DVD recorder that has worked fine for about a year and even the day before. We lost and regained electricity, but this has happened a lot more times over the year. We also have a surge protector, so I do not think that is it. We do have it in a cabinet with a large opening in the back.
My Panasonic DVD recorder (different model) does that at various times throughout the day. Every day at noon, for instance, it turns on, boots up, and then turns off -- as long as there's no disk in it. I can set my watch by it. It does this at other times as well, but I haven't noted the times. It works fine. Maybe you've just observed yours doing this, too?
You might look into getting any firmware updates from Panasonic. They had one a while back. You can try the download on line, but I couldn't get that to work. I ended up calling their 800 number and having them send me a CD. That worked fine and it might fix any possible corruption or poor programming that's causing your problem. The power losses might have messed up some internal setting.
