If one boat travels 5 miles per hour faster than the other boat,
find the rate of each boat.
Let the rate of one boat be R miles per hour.
R^2 + (R + 5)^2 = 25^2
2R^2 + 10R - 600 = 0
2(R - 15)(R + 20) = 0
(R - 15)(R + 20) = 0
R = 15 or (-20)
The rate of one boat is 15 miles per hour and
the rate of the otter boat is 20 miles per hour.
