Is a song or a movie royalty free if the production company is gone?
I want to upload an old video to my website, but the production company is no longer around. So there is nowhere to seek permission. Is a song or a movie royalty free if the production company is gone?
not necessarily, if the producer or director is still alive, his estate may still own the rights.. or they might have sold the rights to a private owner before they went out of business...
but some stories, movies, and songs are so old and common knowledge that they almost have public rights as to where they can be reproduced without permission.. I believe Robin Hood is one of these stories..
