1. A good, light-ish and tall tripod for £100/ $150 max, what should I be looking for? I'm 1.92m tall by the way so something thats at least 170cm would be ideal.

with regards to shutter release, if you're using digital you should be able to get a remote control so you don't need a long cable. Though if it's cable you need, i picked one up on ebay a few days ago for less than £5. Though prices vary depending on the length of cable but still, no more than £15.

Also, check out places like cash converters, i saw a manfrotto in a window of theirs near me for £40. The thing with them is they don't specialise in that sort of thing so you can sometimes get a bargain.
