I will be buying a Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote Control. I was wondering how I can keep the shutter open for an hour or more without holding the shutter button on the camera or the remote? Is there a way to keep the button down to keep the shutter open? I am a new photographer and want to take some cool pics at night. I have a Nikon D60. thanks

Using a wireless remote you have to set the shutter speed on the camera, so there is going to be no way using such a remote to keep the shutter open for an extended period. However there are 3rd party programmable wired remotes that you will allow you to use the "bulb" setting on most cameras, allowing the shutter to remain open for up to an hour.
Unlike many on here I have a pin hole lens (and a zone plate) for my Sony Alpha DSLR-A700. The pin hole is equivalent for f/177 and in normal daylight will properly expose in around 30 seconds (though I tend to play with the sensor sensitivity to achieve this). For most uses an hour would over expose almost any scene.
You, and the previous reply have made me think about playing with the pin hole pointing up to the night sky. It's a case of suck it and see at these sorts of extremes.
