Studio Light Stand

how to shoot in a photography studio, especially of full length shots of people on paper backgrounds?
How can I avoid not damaging the backgraound paper, when my subject is standing on it ? And how do I take off the shadow of the subject on light coloured backgrounds when working with studio lights and flashes ?
Normally background paper is intended to be torn off that is why it comes in rolls of paper. However, you can reduce the tearing by eliminating the walking on it as much as possible. Reduce the amount of paper that the subject will walk on. Objects in the background such as a stool or other objects can help hold the paper down so that it does not wrinkle. Wrinkled paper tears much more easier.
Keep the subject away from the background by at least 6 feet if possible but in any case be sure the background has several lights shining directly on it rather than the subject. Lights on the subject should be defused as possible such as bounced off a light umbrella. This will reduce the shadow and the back-lighting will eliminate any remaining light.
Distance from the background will help a lot too, but this is not always possible in a small studio or where space is a premium.
I found the bounced light to be the most effective in reducing the shadows.
I used the beams in the ceiling to set up several different backgrounds and simply pull down the one that fits the situation I wanted, such as contrast from what the subject is wearing, etc.
