What sort of lighting should I get?

I'm most likely going to invest in this tent and some studio lighting for photographing children. I'm assuming a light tent isn't necessarily the best option for this but for what I want to do it is farrrr more convenient!
I have no idea what sort of lights or how many of them to get to achieve even lighting throughout. I'm on a bit of a budget so just need something that does the job efficiently really. If you have any links or examples that'd be awesome.

light tent for people? - make difussing screens, then place them infrount of the lights
even lighting? -for people? generally one tries to create shadow and depth with uneven lighting, shadow and depth makes a person look more 3d and less flat
get 3 flashes and then study lighting
EDIT: looked at your link, you intend to fit people in that tiny tent?
use grease proof paper and build some screens, they are bigger and you can move then around and change the amount of difussion, if you intend to shoot people get a white,black,gold and silver reflector
