It sounds as if the drive is producing interference into the controller circuitry that's built onto the motherboard.

It sound as though the drive might be sending 'spikes' into the power supply of the PC, in much the same way as lines appear on your TV screen when a car without a suppressor drive past your house.

If the lines only appear when this drive is connected, then this is the source of your problems.

Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do about it, other than replace the drive.
