I have a Sony DSLR-A300. I recently got a OPTEKA wireless shutter, and I have no idea how to set it up. the instructions say "Turn off the power of receiver, set the channel selector switch of both receiver and transmitter at the same position (total 16 channels) and turn on the power of the receiver."
I changed both channel selectors on the remotes to (1 up, 2 up, 3 down, 4 up) The two remotes respond to each other, but it has absolutely no effect on my camera.
I feel like an idiot trying to figure this out, so you if you could please give me step-by-step instructions for everything I may have to do to make this work, that would be wonderful!
maybe i'm trying to plug it into my camera wrong? I slid it on the flash hot shoe, but it had no effect on my camera. am i supposed to change a setting on my camera, or get another cord to attatch from the camera to the reciever?
I've never worked with remotes before. :/

The hard wired version of remote releases (as opposed to IR remotes) usually plug into a 10-pin socket on the main camera body.
Some others sit on the hotshoe and have a PC connection to the PC sync socket on the camera body.
Found this on a review site "On the left-hand side of the A300's body sits a large rubber flap, covering a port for a remote release cable, and a DC-in port for a mains power adapter." See if the socket matches the Opteka transmitter plug.
